This past weekend we celebrated Shay's baptism, surrounded by lots of family. Her Godparents are two of our dearest friends, Pete Hornung and Layne Schnider. Dain and Pete have been friends since college, and I can still remember Pete driving down from Ottawa to visit on many occasions after Kale was born...a small gesture that meant the world to us, because really, not many guys willingly stop by to visit friends who have a wailing newborn baby :) Pete is now married, and he and his wife Lisa have two adorable children of their own. Layne and I have been causing trouble together since, well, middle school! Although I don't see her much these days (in the past year she's lived in New York, Salt Lake, and California), I feel like my soul is renewed every time I get to spend time with her. Dain and I just know without a doubt that Layne will be a tremendous wife and mother someday :) Anyway, I think you get the point...we are thrilled to have Pete and Layne as Shay's Godparents!!
Our sweet Shay, who rarely cries, bawled through out most of the ceremony. For some reason she decided that she was not a fan of our priest that day, and every time she would even look at him she would burst into tears!
Here comes the water (and more tears)!

The Hammerschmidt crew...it's hard to get a good pic with so many little ones, but we tried! :)
Shay with Layne. My mom made her baptism gown, and it is BEAUTIFUL.
Layne sneaking Shay some rice ;) Better that than margaritas, right?!
A rare photo of Grandma and Grandpa Ballard!!
